Evey Fine Art is pleased to represent Cuban-born artist Jorge Santos Marcos (b. 1973). He studied at the San Alejandro Academy of Fine Arts from 2000 to 2004.
Marcos treats the canvas and paper as a vehicle of expression, allowing his work to convey his inner thoughts, emotions, and experiences. Often, his works feature various beings - resembling anthropological figures – an exercise in body perception and display of raw emotion. The human being and their existential conflicts are a consistent theme throughout his work; his characters are fraught with anguish, loneliness, and isolation. Color is also another thematic interest to Marcos; utilizing striking oil pigments, along with strong contour lines, immediately captures the audience's attention.
There is no gravitational center in his paintings; in any case, there are forces and tensions that generate a counterpoint from each of its elements.
Santos' work has been exhibited extensively for over fifteen years in solo and group exhibitions, including L.A. Modern Contemporary, Spectrum Miami, and the Americas Collection. He currently lives and works in Miami, Florida.
